It's done!!!!!!

Sort of....Jon took the first turn sliding down the new waterslide today!!  All in all, it was a good ride.  There do need to be a few adjustments made to the transitions from the slide to the run at the bottom so that younger kids will be able to safely go on it.  It's a bit rough and bumpy as it is now.

Here's one of Jim Gamble's runs down.

Woo hoo, it's retreat time!!

The invasion starts tomorrow night.  A whole bunch of teenagers who haven't all been together since summer will start arriving around 6:30 and be at campa all weekend.  We are going to spend that time having lots of fun and being crazy and loud.

We'll also be talking about all of the things kids love music, music videos, movies and the Internet.  We all listen, watch and surf. So how do we do that and still honor God with our lives?  By Sunday afternoon, we hope to send them off with the tools to be in the world, but not of it.

Please pray for us.  For the counselors who will be sharing their lives and with the kids. For the message to be received and applied. For all of the campers who are coming with hurts, frustrations, doubts and much more.

Tubes are going up!!!

Yesterday with Logan's help, Jon and Alexander tore down the old waterslide.  Jon spent the rest of the day getting the alignment right so that the slope now meets the ground part of the slide.  So the next thing to happen is tubage!!!!   I think it was supposed to happen today, but it rained all night making the ground muy soggy.  Jon is hoping that it the new slide will be ready for our retreats coming up this month.

There has been much discussion around here about who or what is going to take the first trip down the slide.  Suggestions so far.....Logan, a watermelon, one of the Marshall cats.  I'll keep you posted and hopefully catch the inaugural slide on video for you!

Phase 3

It's very, very cool! And very, very tall.  Ben calls it suicide tower. I think I will actually be a bit nervous to go down it.  Thanks to Mr. Craig Chaney and the group from Shoreline Church in Seattle, the new tower is up and looking great.

Here's the view from the top of suicide tower during the middle of Hurricane Irene.

Also some swordfighting viewed from the top.

Jon has been working to put up some trusses whatever they are.  Oh, he just informed me that they are what give strength to the slide and stability to the tube.  Check back for more pictures soon.

Aflote

I know, I know.....I left you all hanging this summer.  I faithfully posted a couple of days in a row about camp, loaded photos for all to see, and then nothing.  In my defense, we did have 91 campers our second week of camp.  That's a lot of campers.  After our camps were over, we had a month of nonstop work crews.  There were people here this summer from Texas, Georgia, Michigan, Pennyslvania, Ohio, Washington State and New York. I will be posting pictures for you all to see soon! In the meantime, you can enjoy this video that the New York group made for their church.  Thanks for all of your prayers this summer.  It was a great one!

More fun is being had by all!!!

I've never died before you know!

...said by a ten year old boy with a completely blank face.  If you were to walk around CdC right now you would hear a lot of strange and funny things. That's because kids are hilarious and we have a lot of them here.  Here are some pictures of a photo scavenger hunt that they did earlier today.

Child labor at CdC!

Just kidding.  Camp is coming and one of the ways that we help parents save money is offering a work day at camp.  So this past Saturday around 25 kids showed up ready to work.  Mostly.  There were a few complaints about the jobs, but that is to be expected from 9 year olds!

Phase 2

The poles are up!!

Phase 1

For the last year campers here at CdC have been forced to use a temporary waterslide.  This happened because the old one was rotting and unsafe and as a result torn down.  The new one would cost more money than was available at the time, so part of the old one was made into a makeshift and mediocre slide (see below).

That is about to change though.  The arrival of these treated logs from the States yesterday signaled the beginning of the new and much improved waterslide.

Plans have been made and even marked out on the ground!

The new slide will be taller, steeper and safer.  It will feature a tube/tunnel and tower with non slippery steps. This is very exciting stuff!   A Mission Adventure Team from Seattle, WA is coming the second week of July to construct the tower.  Thanks in advance guys for the fun you will be providing our campers!

Help wanted.

We need a nurse for camp this summer.  All of our past nurses are unable to be with us this year, and I have run out of people to ask.  So.......do you love God, love kids, have nursing experience, and want to come hang out with us here at CdC for two weeks in July?  Or do you know someone like that?  If so leave a comment or give us a call (787/837-4604).

This weekend is the avance. It's not a retreat, it's an advance. We want to the kids who come to take steps forward in their relationship with God. Really that's our goal every time we have campers here at campa, but this weekend is a little different. This weekend is specifically for the kids in who we see the potential to be counselors for this summer. We invite them here, and we dig into the Word of God together. We also give them the opportunity to interact with a bunch of kids.

This year they planned together an entire afternoon including games, Bible lesson, songs, skits and free time. As a matter of fact at this very minute there is an intense game of medic going on! We invite kids from the barrio next to camp. Yesterday Jim, my dad (John Cox) and i drove around the barrio handing out permission slips and flyers. This morning at around 7:30, my parents (who live in the barrio) had to send kids home and tell them to come back at 11:00. We had 37 kids show up. 37 kids + 21 potential counselors + wind and sun and hotdogs = hot, sweaty, loud fun!
